What finance teaches about pricing risk with AI
15 September 2026 · 5 min read
Finance, at its core, is the business of pricing uncertainty: what is this case, this deal, this borrower actually worth, and what could go wrong. The judgement-heavy part has never been the arithmetic. It has been deciding what to look at.
AI changes the speed, not the ownership. A model can assemble the picture, surface the comparable cases, and flag the anomalies far faster than a person can. What it cannot do is carry the consequence of being wrong, so a person still prices the risk and signs off on it.
The operators who do this well use AI to widen what they can consider, not to shrink what they are responsible for. The scarce skill is reading a situation and knowing which of the machine-surfaced signals actually matter.
